Emma: Coming Full Circle

Emma is ten.

Emma was born in Hong Kong and she is once again living in Hong Kong. It just took a decade to come back.

A decade is a long time for someone so young but for me it is a blink. I sometimes look at her old baby pictures and yearned for her plump baby cheeks. I missed those toddler days.

But I still glimpsed at what was. When she is reading intensely and she pursed her lips in concentration. When she is laughing hysterically with Lauren. When she is next to me...just sitting...just to be with me.

Not much has changed. She definitely likes things glittery and sparkly. Although her favorite pink has morphed into magenta. She is reading more and more and loving each book.

But she has changed in so many ways. She's taller, leaner and learning Mandarin in lightning speed.

Lightning speed.

I'm looking forward to the next ten years and I need to savor each minute.
